Perry was born on July 25, 1968 in Chicago in Illinois. She was the daughter of Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. Her first TV roles were two appearances in the role of Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) in her role on the ABC sitcom Roseanne which was played by her mom. Because of their fear of stress, the parents didn't want to see her pursue acting before she turned 18. Perry was shy in high-school and did not act. Her first acting experience was in the year 2000 at Northwestern University to gain friends as she transferred to the university from Boston University. Perry made her debut in New York after graduation, performing in minor roles in Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But homesickness made Perry go back to California and find work as an actress in the theater. The Other Place was performed by her and her mother on Broadway in 2013. Perry was in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie as well as Kevin McKidd. This was presented at West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Perry played a part in nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family during 2016. In 2017 she had an recurring role in her own ABC Political thriller Scandal which starred her father. She also played her older Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon - a CBS spin-off from The Big Bang Theory. The actress was chosen for the role despite having a close relationship with the character's family.
